Beginning July 1, 1999 the website
www.preventgenocide.org is available in English,
French,
German and
Spanish.
There is a separate section for each language on the website, with links
and navigational aids in the language of each section. There are also
cross links among the sections so viewers can readily move from items
in one language to the parallel items in other languages. With the exception
of some longer documents, as many items as possible will be translated
in order to make information on the website as broadly available as possible.
Present Plans
Visitors to our website have told us how difficult it
can sometimes be to find information on the Internet for those with
limited knowledge of the English language. Prevent Genocide International
is committed to providing information on the prevention of genocide
to the global public through the medium of the Internet. For technical
reasons, however for the immediate future we must limit the available
languages to those written in the Latin alphabet.
Future plans
As we are able, we intend to make more material on genocide available
in Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Portuguese. At present our site includes
some examples of laws against genocide in these languages. We anticipate
providing more material in each of these languages soon, though not during
1999.
Thanks to our volunteers
The effort to create the pages on our website, from design to translation,
is the work of volunteers. Volunteers contribute their time and talent,
both in-person in Washington, D.C. and as "virtual volunteers" working
via the Internet. Our volunteers are busy people, but make time for this
important project.
We need your help
Prevent Genocide International is a new organization. Anyone who shares
our goals is invited to volunteer. If you can help with research, writing,
editing, translation, proofreading, fund raising and other tasks, please
contact our office. You need not live near our office, but can coordinate
your work with our local staff via the Internet.
Please consider how your talents can help us expand and improve this
website and build our organizational network. We need your help.
